Example of using our Flocculation aids

General information

A flocculation aids is a substance used to enhance a floc. Flocculation aids are used in combination with flocculants wherever solid-liquid separation is required. They accelerate the sedimentation or flotation of suspended solid particles and decisively improve the dewatering behavior of the sludge thickened in this way in static or mechanical dewatering processes.

Flocculation aids are mostly organic, synthetic, high-molecular and water-soluble polyelectrolytes based on polyacrylamide. Other organic polyelectrolytes of synthetic or natural origin are also used. Polyaluminum also acts as a flocculant. In contrast to flocculants, flocculants do not form flocs themselves, but promote the aggregation of flocs to form larger structures (flocculation) and increase water release.

Areas of application

Flocculants are used, among other things, in the cleaning of municipal and industrial waste water in sewage treatment plants, in the reprocessing of process and circulating water and in the clarification of raw or surface water for the production of process or drinking water.

Many dewatering units, such as centrifuges, decanters, belt filters or chamber filter presses, are barely functional without the addition of flocculation aids, or only with significant performance limitations.
